How and when do you listen to podcasts?

I bike to work, so my daily car commute and podcast time is picking my son up from pre-school. It’s about a half hour round trip so I usually get in one a day! My poor toddler has listened to a LOT of business advice!

What podcasts do you listen to?

How I Built This: an incredibly well-done entrepreneur interview show that goes beyond the usual suspects that everyone else is talking to. The stories and backgrounds of the people featured are incredibly diverse, and I find it really inspiring!

Giant Robots Smashing Into Other Giant Robots: I love this one because it follows the business journey in real time. Instead of doing interviews, the two hosts talk about the current issues in their businesses that week. It’s a rare look at how startups unfold day-to-day instead of just getting the glossy “after” version.

Are there any podcast episodes that have had a big impact on your life, business, or thinking?

I really loved the How I Built This episode with Manoj Bhargava, the founder of Five Hour Energy. He frequently dismissed “expert” advice and thought it was better to look at an industry with fresh eyes.

I think it can be really scary going against your industry’s status quo, but that’s also where you can make the biggest breakthroughs.
